How to release/renew your IP address (Mac OS 8/9)

  1. Go to the Apple menu and click TCP/IP from the Control Panels submenu. The TCP/IP control panel will be displayed.

  2. Select User Mode from the Edit menu. The User Mode window will be displayed.

  3. Click the Advanced radio button if it is not already selected, and then click OK. The TCP/IP control panel will display additional options.

  4. Click the "Options..." button. The TCP/IP Options window will be displayed.

  5. Click the Inactive radio button and then click OK.

  6. Close the TCP/IP window. You will be asked to save changes to the current configuration. Click the Save button.

  7. You will be asked whether you want to make TCP/IP active. Click the No button.

  8. Wait 2 minutes for your current TCP/IP session to be released.

  9. Go to the Apple menu and choose TCP/IPfrom the Control Panels submenu. The TCP/IP control panel will open.

  10. Click the "Options..." button. The TCP/IP Options window will be displayed.

  11. Make sure that the "Load only when needed" checkbox is not selected.

    If "Load only when needed" is selected, click the checkbox to deselect it.

  12. Click OK.

  13. Close the TCP/IP window. You will be asked to save changes to the current configuration. Click the Save button.

  14. Open your browser or e-mail application to complete your TCP/IP connection configuration.
