Cloud Services
When contemplating cloud service delivery models, education is the first step. There are three cloud options available to enterprises – Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service. Once you understand the capabilities of each option, you can evaluate your environment, needs, and application workloads to determine how and where cloud service delivery is a strategic fit within your organization.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
IaaS delivers compute (virtualized servers), storage and network resources as a service to help IT and business users access IT capacity more quickly, manage resources on demand and achieve greater financial efficiency and business agility. Enterprises are leveraging IaaS for initiatives including dev/test, short projects, compute-intensive tasks and seasonal requirements.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS enables enterprises to economically “rent” (and customize) finished applications (e-mail, collaboration, enterprise applications) on a per-user or per-organization basis for a period of time to address specific business capabilities or processes.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
PaaS targets developers who design and integrate end-user applications for access from a variety of devices. Generally, users subscribe to PaaS services on a time or volume basis.
