Reinstall TCP/IP (Windows NT/2000/XP)

Use the following instructions to reinstall the TCP/IP protocol for Windows NT, 2000 or repair for Windows XP.

Windows NT/2000

Step 1: Uninstall TCP/IP

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Settings, choose Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
  4. Double-click Local Area Connection.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Click TCP/IP to highlight it.

  1. Click Uninstall to remove TCP/IP.
  2. Click Yes when it asks you to confirm that you do actually want to remove TCP/IP.
  3. The computer will then prompt to restart. Click Yes .

Step 2: Reinstall TCP/IP

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Settings, choose Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
  4. Double-click Local Area Connection.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Click Install.
  7. Highlight Protocol, click Add.
  8. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click OK.
  9. You should now see the new Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the Components list.
  10. Click Close.

Windows XP

For Windows XP, TCP/IP can't really be reinstalled.

  • Click Start.
  • Click Settings and choose Network Connections.
  • Double-click the Local Area Connection.
  • In this window, click the Support tab at the top, then on the 'Repair' button at the bottom.
