Reinstall TCP/IP (Windows NT/2000/XP)
Use the following instructions to reinstall the TCP/IP protocol for Windows NT, 2000 or repair for Windows XP.
Windows NT/2000
Step 1: Uninstall TCP/IP
- Click Start.
- Click Settings, choose Control Panel.
- Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Double-click Local Area Connection.
- Click Properties.
- Click TCP/IP to highlight it.

- Click Uninstall to remove TCP/IP.
- Click Yes when it asks you to confirm that you do actually want to remove TCP/IP.
- The computer will then prompt to restart. Click Yes .
Step 2: Reinstall TCP/IP
- Click Start.
- Click Settings, choose Control Panel.
- Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Double-click Local Area Connection.
- Click Properties.
- Click Install.
- Highlight Protocol, click Add.
- Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click OK.
- You should now see the new Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the Components list.
- Click Close.
Windows XP
For Windows XP, TCP/IP can't really be reinstalled.
- Click Start.
- Click Settings and choose Network Connections.
- Double-click the Local Area Connection.
- In this window, click the Support tab at the top, then on the 'Repair' button at the bottom.
