Navigating through your Optik TV experience
Learn how to navigate Optik TV, search for shows, customize your channels and more on your Optik TV Digital Box.
This article shows you how to navigate through Optik TV if you are accessing it through a TELUS TV HD/4K Set Top Box or an HD/4K Digital Box.

Launching Optik TV and TELUS TV remote support
Optik TV will automatically launch once you turn on your TELUS TV HD/4K Set Top Box or an HD/4K Digital Box.
Once it launches, you can easily access all your content with a navigation menu at the top of your screen. You can use your TELUS TV remote to navigate through Optik TV.

Optik TV Home screen
Your Home screen gives you quick access to the shows and movies you want to watch the moment you turn on your TV. When you turn on Optik TV, your Home screen will appear. You can also access the Home screen at any time by pressing the left arrow on your remote while watching live TV.
Your Home screen gives you a quick way to discover and access content you care about as soon as you turn on your Optik TV. The Home screen allows you to:
- Continue watching an On Demand movie or TV series.
- Launch Netflix and other apps.
- See trending live TV content.
- Play your current and most recent recordings.
Disabling and re-enabling Home screen
The Optik TV Home screen is turned on by default, but can be easily disabled and re-enabled
To disable the Home screen:
- While in the Home screen, selectOptionson your remote.
- SelectOff.
- SelectDon’t display.
To re-enable the Home screen:
- Press the left arrow on your remote while your Optik TV is turned on to return to the Home screen.
- SelectOptionson your remote.
- SelectOn.
- SelectDisplay.

Trending Now feature on Optik TV
Trending Now
shows you the top five shows being watched in your region at that moment (based on what other customers in your region are watching in real time). The
Trending Now
feature:- Can be accessed at any time on any Live TV channel, and is available on all Optik TV digital boxes.
- Is included with your Optik TV subscription at no extra cost.
- Keeps your information 100% private. (TELUS has no way of differentiating the data between households).
- Allows you to.customize your Optik TV channel view
- Ensures your parental control settings will still work.
To use
Trending Now
, please follow the steps below:- Tune in to any channel and wait until the channel information disappears (or pressback/exiton your remote).
- Press theright buttonon your remote to haveTrending Nowappear at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll through with the arrow buttons and pressOKon your remote to instantly tune in to the show that interests you.
- You can exitTrending Nowfrom your screen by pressingback/exiton your remote.
Note
:- Channels you’re not subscribed to may appear inTrending Now. If you select a channel you are not currently subscribed to, you will be asked if you want to add it. Subscribing to new channels is always your choice. Channels will not be added to your account unless you give your express consent. If you discover a new channel you want to subscribe to viaTrending Now, you can add it right on your TELUS TV Digital Box by selecting the channel and selectingSubscription options.
- On Demand and Pay Per View content will not appear inTrending Now. You can browse trending On Demand titles to rent or buy directly in the On Demand library.
Enhanced Search feature on Optik TV
You can use search to quickly find a TV show, an On Demand title, Pay Per View event or within streaming apps such as Prime Video, Netflix or hayu* (universal search).

Enhanced Search
:- Selectsearch.
- Select one of the options to search by:
- Navigate to the first letter you are entering and pressOK.
- Repeat step 3 to enter more letters, or select from the search results as you type.
- To return to the alphabet, navigate toABCand pressOK.
- Use (^) or (v) to highlight the result you want and pressOKto view upcoming showtimes.
Tip
: Quickly search by using the number keypad on your remote to spell the name of the person or program you’re looking for. For example, to search for a title containing the letter B
, press the number 2

Onscreen Guide on Optik TV
The
Onscreen Guide
on Optik TV has a variety of features that make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for. You can view programs in three different views:
- Grid guide: Shows programs that are currently showing and “What's coming up”, displayed by channel and in 30-minute intervals.
- Channel lineup guide: All programs for a specific channel are listed.
- On now guide: Shows programs that are currently showing, as well as those immediately following, including box art and program name, channel and length of the program.
You can choose which guide view you prefer in the
Guide style menu
in your on-screen settings.How to find out what channels you've recently watched, what's currently on and what's coming up
.- To view recently viewed channels: Press theprevious buttonon your remote to see five recently viewed channels. Use theleft/right arrowsto select a previously viewed channel.
- To view what’s currently airing: Press thedown arrowwhen watching TV to see what's currently airing.
- To view what programs are coming up next: Use theright arrowto find out what's next.
You can also choose between viewing a list of your five recently viewed channels, or navigating directly to the last-viewed channel by following these steps:
- SelectMenu.
- SelectSettings.
- SelectTelevision.
- SelectPrevious channel options.
- ChooseView a list of your five recently viewed channels.
- ChooseNavigate directly to the last viewed channel.
- SelectSave.
Note
: For customers using older Optik TV set top boxes, we recommend choosing Navigate directly to the last viewed channel
.Quick guide tips
- To view a list of all programs on a channel, use theleft arrowto highlight the channel logo and number. Then pressOK.
- To go forward or backward in the guide in 24-hour intervals, pressskip fwdorskip back.
Customizing your Channel guide
There are many ways to customize your Optik TV onscreen guide to better organize and group channels by
Categories
, or setting it to only view channels that you’re subscribed to. Categories in your Channel guide
Categories are channels grouped by subject matter, genre or other qualities. When you select a category, only its channels will appear in the guide.
To view by channel category:
- Pressmenu.
- Select categories underLive TVand pressOK.
- Select one of the following channel categories:
Subscribed channel view for Optik TV
You can customize your onscreen guide to display only the channels that you're subscribed to:
- PressOptionson your Optik TV remote control.
- SelectFavourite lists.
- SelectSubscribed channels.
- SelectOK.
Your onscreen guide will now display only the channels that you’re subscribed to.
If you would like to see all available channels again, including channels that you’re not subscribed to:
- SelectOptions.
- selectAll channels.
- SelectOK.
Your onscreen guide will now display all channels.
If you are not able to see some of the channels you are subscribed to in the guide:
- PressGuideon your Optik TV remote control.
- PressOptions.
- Scroll down toGuide settingsand pressOK.
- SelectCustomize settings.
- Scroll left toCheck all.
- Scroll up toSave.
Live filters
Live filters let you temporarily filter your content by genre. To turn this feature on:
- SelectOptions.
- SelectLive Filters.
- Select the program genre type filter (Educational, Kids, Movies, News, Sports, etc.).
- SelectOK.
A list of filtered content options will be displayed.
Favourites list for Optik TV
Another way to customize your onscreen guide is to display only the channels that are on your
Favourites
list. A separate Favourites
list can be created on each digital box.To create your
Favourites
list:- PressMenu.
- SelectFavouritesunderLive TVand pressOK.
- SelectSet up...and pressOK.
- Highlight the available channels and pressOKto add them to theFavouriteslist.
- Navigate toSaveand pressOKto save your changes.
A green checkmark will appear next to the channels that are included in your
Favourites
list.To access your
Favourites
list:- PressOptionson your remote control.
- Use (v) to selectFavouritesand pressOK.
- Select theFavouriteslist you’d like to view and pressOK.
To edit your
Favourites
list(s):- PressMenuon your remote control.
- SelectSettings.
- SelectTelevision.
- SelectSet up Favourites.
- Navigate to theFavouriteslist you wish to update and pressOK.
- To edit the list of channels, highlight the available channels and pressOKto add or remove the channel(s).
- A green checkmark will appear next to the channels that are included.
To re-name or delete the
Favourites
list: - Press theOptionsbutton on the remote control.
- The following options will appear on the right-hand side:
- To re-name, selectRename this list. Then type in your desired name using the arrow keys.
- SelectSave.
To delete the
Favourites
list:- SelectDelete this list.
- Then selectDeletewhen prompted on the screen. This cannot be undone.
- Navigate toSaveand pressOKto save your changes.
Changing your Optik TV Digital Box name

Note
: Casting content from a mobile device is only available with 4K digital boxes.The content casting feature lets you watch content from your mobile devices on your TV. If you use this feature, you will see a list of devices you can connect to. So that you can easily select the TV where you want to watch this content, you can modify the name of your Optik TV Digital Box.
Here are the steps you’ll need to follow:
- Press themenubutton on your Optik TV remote control and selectSettings
- Go to theTV appssection
- SelectDigital box name
- Enter your preferred name for the digital box or select one of the suggested names
- HitSaveto confirm
