OAuth settings
Most people will use email on multiple devices, such as smartphones or tablets and laptops. To protect your account, you should use applications that are built with OAuth or Open Authentication. OAuth will protect your account against hackers and hijacking attempts.
Here are some examples of OAuth applications:

You can find out if your email app supports OAuth by trying to set up a new email account. Your app may offer you a list of email providers that includes Google. If it does, your email app supports OAuth. Be sure to select Google as your provider and use your TELUS email account details.
If your application is not listed above, you can use the settings below to set up your application.

Less secure applications (not recommended)
Over time, applications will become out of date and become vulnerable for hacking, hijacking or malicious attacks. To protect your email, it is recommended that you upgrade to software applications that are current and have the latest software updates installed.
Note
: In 2021, less secure applications support will be disabled and you will need to use an application that supports OAuth. Please ensure you have upgraded your email application to a compatible application by 2021.
However, if you require the use of an older application, you can use these steps below to grant access to your Mail account for “Less secure applications”:
Scroll down to “Less secure app access” and select
Turn on access
Toggle “Allow less secure apps switch” to
On
You have now enabled Less secure application access for your account. If you no longer require this enabled in the future, please use the steps above to change the setting to
Off
.
Enable 2-step verification
A more secure way to allow your email programs (e.g. Outlook) to have access to your TELUS email account is to enable 2-step verification. You can do so on Google.
To enable this setting, follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit your profile in Google
Go to myaccount.google.com and sign in to your TELUS email account. Select

Step 2: Click on "Get Started"
