Learn more about the new feature that helps filter unwanted robocalls at no additional cost.
Call Control is an optional, no-cost feature that automatically screens out bot calls and stops them from bothering you.
Eligible TELUS Home Phone customers can choose to activate Call Control.
How Call Control works
Under Call Control, when a caller calls you for the first time, they are prompted to enter a number on their keypad. If they succeed in entering it, the call will come to you and the call will not be invited again (as long as they are one of your 25 most recent callers.)
If they enter the wrong number, they'll hear an automated message that they couldn't reach you. This filtering process prevents robocalls from going through and is simple enough for real callers to get through.
You can add phone numbers to your accepted list to prevent them from being screened when they try to reach you.
We strongly recommend that you add the phone numbers of frequent or important callers (such as doctor, school, etc.)
If you don't want to receive calls from certain numbers at all, you can put them on your blocked list.
Call control is now enabled on your device. You can now manage it using the following functions:
Use the toggle button to enable or disable call control at any time
View your call log for a history of accepted and blocked callers. Select
Accept
or
Block
under log details to choose how they will be filtered in the future
Optionally, you can add phone numbers to your accepted list. Accepted numbers will bypass call control filtering
Optionally, you can also add phone numbers to your blocked list. Blocked numbers will not be able to pass filtering
Use
Preferences
to send unscreened callers to voicemail
Call Control Management with IVR
Call control can also be handled with IVR (Interactive Voice Response).
Dial
*88
(French) or
*99
(English).
The IVR can be used to:
Activate call control
Disable call control
Move one of your last 3 callers to your "Allowed" or "Blocked" list
Important things to note
Call Control could filter legitimate calls automatically dialed, such as an automated recording notifying you of a package delivery. If your home has an intercom system with an associated phone number, add that caller ID number to your accepted list. Be sure to add anyone who doesn't speak English to your accepted list so they won't be invited.
