Instructions to set up email on an Android device

How to set up your email on your Android device

  1. From the home screen, tap
    Menu

  2. Select
    Settings

  3. Scroll down to accounts and select
    Add account

  4. Select the type of account you would like to add

  5. Type your email address

  6. Type your password

  7. Tap
    Next

  8. Give this account a name. This is optional and can be whatever will allow you to identify this account

  9. Type your name. This is the name that displays to recipients of your sent email

  10. Tap
    Done

    • Note:
      If your smartphone can't automatically set up your email account, you'll have to set it up manually

  11. Select the type of account

  12. Type your username

  13. Type your password

  14. Type your POP3 or IMAP server name. If you're not sure of these settings, contact your email provider for details

  15. Select the security type. Typically this should be set to none

  16. Tap
    Next

  17. Type the SMTP server

    • Note:
      If you're using a Wi-Fi network connection, you may need to use the SMTP (outgoing mail) server associated with your Wi-Fi Internet service provider

  18. Select the security type. Typically this should be set to none

  19. Type the port. Typically, this is 25, 587, or 465 with SSL

    • Note:
      For TELUS.net accounts, use port 1025

  20. If you're setting up a telus.net email account, place a checkmark in the require sign-in check box

  21. Tap
    Next

  22. Set your personal preferences for email check frequency and tap
    Next
