Explaining TELUS’ 3G usage price increase

A new charge has been added to select customers' accounts to help us continue supporting legacy networks and the costs of maintaining old equipment.

Since TELUS introduced our award-winning 4G LTE and 5G networks, we’ve seen great improvements in overall data speed, voice quality and general connectivity. But as technology evolves, older network equipment becomes outdated and needs decommissioning.

In several countries around the world, mobile carriers have already decommissioned their 3G networks, and TELUS plans to do the same in the future.

In the interim, we want to continue supporting the 2.3% of TELUS customers using our legacy 3G network while offsetting rising network and infrastructure costs associated with it.
