How to set up 2-factor authentication for your My TELUS account
Follow the required steps here to set up 2-factor authentication to better secure your My TELUS account.
Note
: To set up 2-factor authentication, you will need your mobile phone on hand with the My TELUS app downloaded.
Step 1: Navigate to the Contact and security settings screen
Open the My TELUS app and log in if needed
Select the hamburger menu in the top left corner (the icon looks like three horizontal lines stacked)
Select
Contact and security settings
Select
2-factor authentication
and then select
Turn on 2-factor authentication
On Step 1 of the setup process, select
Turn on 2-factor authentication
Step 2: Enter your verification code
Note
: To verify it’s you making this change to your account, you’ll be sent a verification code to a phone number associated with your account.
Select the phone number you’d like the verification code sent to
Choose whether you prefer to receive your verification code via text or automated phone call
Select
Send verification code
You will either receive a text or phone call with a 6-digit verification code
On the next step, enter the verification code you received, and select
Turn on 2-factor authentication
Tip
: If you didn't receive a code, try resending it or select a different contact method.
Step 3: Set up a recovery method
In case you lose access to the phone you’re using for 2-factor authentication, you’ll need another way to verify your identity. This is called your recovery method.
You can make your recovery method the phone number you just verified, or make another phone number or email your recovery method, as long as that phone number or email is not already being used to log into your My TELUS account.
If you choose to set up a new recovery method, you will be sent another verification code to that email or phone number, and will need to enter it to complete the set up.
Once you’ve selected your recovery method and entered your code, select
Submit
to continue to the last step.
Step 4: 2-factor authentication confirmation and backup codes
2-factor authentication is now enabled. This means the next time you or someone else tries to log in on a new device or browser, they’ll be asked to enter a verification code, which you can find in your My TELUS app on the mobile phone you used to set up 2-factor authentication.
At this step you can also save your backup codes. These will be useful in case you lose access to your primary phone and your recovery methods.
Tip
: We recommend you write these down or store them somewhere safe.
