How do specialist referrals work?

Our doctors may provide you with a specialist referral after the appointment when medically appropriate.

Many specialists are covered under your provincial health insurance. In these scenarios, our Support team will arrange for a referral to be sent to the specialist directly.

Specialists usually take at least 10 business days to get back to us and confirm whether or not they can accept the referral, and to schedule an appointment date and time. We will keep you informed on the status of your referral by email.

For specialists not covered by provincial health insurance

Certain Allied Health specialists, such as registered massage therapists, mental health counsellors and physiotherapists, may not be covered by your provincial health insurance.

In these scenarios, you will be sent a referral letter directly in the app where you can download, email or print the PDF to share with the Allied Health specialist of your choice.

To find this referral letter:

    Referral
    under your recent appointment
