Information about TELUS Health MyPet prescriptions
Answers to common questions regarding prescriptions.
How do TELUS Health MyPet prescriptions work?
For non-urgent and veterinary-specific products, your prescription will be filled and delivered to you by our affiliate clinic. It may take up to five business days to have your prescriptions delivered through our affiliate clinic.
Some dog and cat medications can be filled by human pharmacies, and they may offer same-day prescription fulfillment. When the prescription has been filled by the pharmacy, you can then coordinate with them directly for pick-up or delivery.
Can a TELUS Health MyPet veterinarian prescribe medication through a virtual consultation?
Yes. TELUS Health MyPet veterinarians can prescribe certain medications for dogs and cats through a virtual consultation. However, Schedule II-V medications (controlled substances) can only be prescribed through an in-person visit with a veterinarian.
What is a Prescription Service Fee (PSF)?
Effective August 30, 2023, we will be implementing a Prescription Service Fee (PSF) of $30 per session, applicable when medications are prescribed as a result of a consultation.
The PSF goes toward:
A timely follow-up with a registered veterinary technician to ensure your pet's treatments are going well ($40 value).
Coordinating with your preferred pharmacy when required.
Determining the appropriate medication and dosage for your pet by a veterinarian.
Typically, dispensing fees are combined with the price of the drug. To simplify, we are eliminating the dispensing fee at our clinics and only charging a PSF. That keeps our overall rates low, and in line with guidelines from the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).
In British Columbia, MyPet is affiliated with Little Paws Animal Clinic (#130 12011 2nd Ave, Richmond BC), while in Ontario, we work in affiliation with Pet Telemedicine Veterinary Care (#103 410 Adelaide Street West, Toronto ON).
