TELUS Health MyPet FAQ about veterinary technicians

A veterinarian can diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications and create treatment plans for your pet.

A registered veterinary technician (vet tech) is not trained or authorized to diagnose or prescribe. However, they can answer general health questions and provide advice on your pet's well-being.

Veterinary technicians have completed a two-year program in animal health technology or veterinary technology from a school approved by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) or the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT).

They are active members of their provincial associations. All veterinary technicians working on the MyPet platform have at least three years of experience in clinical settings.

If the veterinary technician determines within the first few minutes of the appointment that your pet's concerns need the attention of a veterinarian, either through a virtual or in-person appointment, the current appointment will be cancelled.

You will receive a full refund for the appointment, which will be credited back to your original payment method within three to five business days. We recommend checking what veterinary technician can help with before booking an appointment.
